Agriculture and Environment in the Balkans and Turkey

The European Commission, Directorate General Joint Research Centre and the Directorate General Enlargement, in collaboration with the Gembloux Agriculture University, the Walloon Agriculture Research Centre, and the Wallonia Business House for EUROPE are organizing an International Workshop on “Agriculture and Environment in the Balkans and Turkey: Networking Regional Experience”.

Agriculture contributes a significant share to the economy and employment of the Balkan region where strong agricultural traditions and unique natural conditions are found. As EU candidates or Potential Candidates, the Balkan countries engage in efforts to put into practice scientific and technical know-how in the field of agriculture and environment in view of implementing national and EU legislation.

The objective of this Workshop is to exchange experience from this implementation process across the Balkans, Turkey and the European Union. It will represent a forum for transferring knowledge related to effective and environmental friendly agricultural management aspects contributing to overall welfare and sustainability in the Region. The Workshop will bring together experts from Regional, National or Government Institutions. to sharing expertise on best practices on the implementation of agricultural and environmental policies in Europe.


The Workshop will be held on 3 and 4 July 2006 in Gembloux, Belgium on the premises of the Gembloux Agricultural University. People interested to participate at the conference could contact Robert Oger at the following address:
