The agroclimatological bulletin

Before the installation by the Royal Meteorological Institute of Belgium (RMI) of the current automatic weather station in Ernage, several stations, equipped with more and more efficient equipment, followed one another in Gembloux. Thus, climatological data have been recorded nearly nonstop during the period 1888-2007.
OGER & GLIBERT [1989] report that appears, at the Gembloux station in 1932, the idea of showing the meteorological factors variations having an effect on crop development. This concern is still relevant today with the measurement of essential climatic parameters allowing notably the crop growth and development monitoring. In this context, the publication of an agroclimatological bulletin reporting observations collected at Ernage station is totally justified.

The agroclimatological bulletin provides climatological information for an agronomical use. Indeed, for each agricultural campaign, the establishment of a climatological outline, necessary to interpret field observations (crop behaviour in relation to diseases …), is published.
Furthermore, in the climate change context, the availability of these datasets allows, in addition to highlight some key parameter changes, the establishment of new reference values, which make possible to characterise the meteorological data observed during the current period.

The agroclimatological bulletin, monthly published since 1977, synthesizes all the month meteorological information including daily, 10-days and one month period calculated data (mean, min, max).
The published information is particularly rich regarding the measured climatological variables diversity. Indeed, in addition to the standard data of temperature and rainfall are published:

- Daily : sunny period duration, windspeed, and relative humidity (%),
- 10-day and month period : some solar thermal data (relative insolation, global radiation, radiation balance), atmosphere condition data (saturation deficit, windspeed) and finally hydrological data (potential evapotranspiration, actual evapotranspiration, water balance, grassed soil moisture deficit, grassed soil cumulated drainage).

Moreover, a frequency degree of the event is allocated to each monthly or 10-day period calculated variable.
