From Monday 16 March to Friday 20 March 2026, the CRA-W is organising its annual training course in vibrational spectroscopy and chemometrics, a five-day programme designed for students, researchers, technicians and professionals from the agri-food, feed, environmental and analytical sectors.
The course offers a thorough introduction to near-infrared (NIR), mid-infrared (MIR) and Raman spectroscopy, together with hyperspectral imaging technologies. Participants will learn the fundamentals of chemometrics and machine learning, including multivariate techniques such as Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Partial Least Squares (PLS) and Support Vector Machines (SVM). The programme also highlights best practices for sampling, data acquisition, data management, spectral pre-processing and robust model validation, illustrated through real-world case studies. Combining theoretical lectures, demonstrations and guided data-analysis sessions, the training focuses on how spectroscopic instruments are used in practice, how to interpret spectral and imaging data, and how to develop reliable predictive models supported by rigorous validation and monitoring procedures. The course will be illustrated with concrete applications in plant phenotyping, agricultural monitoring, food and feed quality control, product traceability and industrial process monitoring, using real datasets from diverse agri-food systems.
The training is delivered in English and led by CRA-W researchers together with invited international experts. It offers a unique opportunity to acquire practical skills and deepen scientific understanding. Throughout the week, you will be supported by the CRA-W team, share convivial moments during meals and the social evening, and have many opportunities to discuss technical and scientific topics, as well as your own research, between sessions.
We look forward to hearing from you.
