Abstract | The main aphid pests of cereal crops in Belgium, Metopolophium dirhodum (Wlk.) and Sitobion avenae (F.), are known to be parasitised by Aphidius ervi Hal. and A. picipes (Nees). A third parasitic species was discovered by examination of the number of stripes on the petiole, the tentorial index, the relationship between the metacarpus and the pterostigma on the left and right wings, and the numbers of antennal segments; it is described from the male and female adults as A. frumentarius sp.n. It was most closely related to A. uzbekistanicus Luzhetzki and A. rhopalosiphi De Stef. As well as the 2 aphid hosts mentioned, A. frumentarius was recovered from M. festucae (Theo.) and Rhopalosiphum padi (L.) on wheat in different localities in Belgium. |
