Abstract Laboratory studies in Belgium on the factors influencing the infectivity of Erynia neoaphidis to Acyrthosiphon pisum, using test methods similar to those previously described, showed that conidia growing from aphids mummified by the fungus 1 day, 15 days or 6 months previously and stored at 5 deg C and 16% RH were equally infective to fresh aphids. The conidia produced 1-3 h after conidiogenesis were more infective than those produced after 15-17 h, and exposure to light during conidiogenesis increased infectivity. However, aphids placed in the dark for 24 h after exposure to the fungus were more susceptible to it than those maintained under electric light, and more infected aphids died when kept at 18 deg C than at 14 or 22 deg C. Storage for 24 h at 100% RH and in darkness appeared sufficient to ensure maximum mortality from the fungus.
