Abstract In a field trial in Belgium on soil naturally infested with BYMV Galion and Birgit developed no symptoms and gave higher yields than Gerbel, normally high yielding but very susceptible. Mammut (susceptible but tolerant) yielded better than Franca and Barbo which appeared not to be susceptible. The 4 resistant cultivars are all long-strawed, mid-season cultivars.
