WALLeSmart: lightening the digital load for farmers

A collaborative platform to centralise agricultural data and facilitate the use of digital tools in Wallonia.

For several years now, Wallonia's agricultural sector has been equipping itself with sensors, software and mobile applications, both in the fields and in the barns. This growing digitalisation generates a large amount of useful data, but it is often scattered across various platforms. This leads to multiple connections, repeated entries and an everyday digital processes that are more complex than they need to be.

The WALLeSmart platform was created in 2018 to meet this challenge and help farmers. The aim is clear: simplify access to digital agricultural tools by centralising data and services. Led by Elevéo, in collaboration with the CRA-W, UMONS, ULg Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech, WalDigiFarm, ARSIA and Comité du Lait, it is based on one key principle: interoperability.

In other words, it enables computer systems to "speak the same language". By using shared reference systems, an application designed to improve herd management can, for example, automatically retrieve milk testing results. Data from the plots can also be synchronised with weather or plant health tools.

Fewer inputs, more time for the essentials.

WALLeSmart avoids duplicate entries, reduces errors and increases efficiency. All the CRA-W's tools are being gradually integrated into the platform, such as W@llHerbe, AGROMET, WALLBOVINUT and DECIDE+,  in a secure environment where each user retains control of their data, in line with the best practices defined by OpEnAgro4.2.
