Abstract Diffuse annular spots on leaves and discoloured areas on fruits were found on a plum tree, probably of foreign origin, in 1974. Plum pox virus [CMI Map 392] was identified by transmission to herbaceous and woody plants, serologically and by electron microscopy. No infection was found on neighbouring trees.
