Abstract Interreg III is a European programme with the main aim of reinforcing economic and social cohesion in the European Union by promoting transfrontier, transnational and interregional cooperation. The principal objective of this project was to create a centre of excellence for fruit genetic resources for the Belgian-French transfrontier zone. Notes are given on the collection of genetic resources and a programme for improvement of pear with an emphasis on resistance to Venturia pirina.
