Abstract Acyrthosiphon pisum collected from lucerne in the field and reared in the laboratory in Belgium on Vicia faba at 17-19 deg C, 70-90 % RH and LD 18:6 were used for the propagation of the fungus Erynia neoaphidis isolated from Sitobion avenae on wheat. The quantitative estimation of the production of conidia from aphids mummified by the fungus was effected by a photometric technique involving the use of a precision light-intensity meter and a wooden camera obscura. A linear relationship was observed between the photometric values observed and the quantities of conidia estimated by means of a hematocymeter.
