Abstract Notes are given on the general characteristics of Agrilus sinuatus, a pest of pear orchards in Belgium. The life cycle takes 3 years for completion, with adults emerging in May-July. This species is considered to be a primary pest of some Rosaceae, including pears (Pyrus communis), hawthorn (Crataegus sp.), quinces (Cydonia oblonga), medlars (Mespilus germanica) and Sorbus aucuparia. Monitoring methods are outlined. Control includes preventive measures, such as choice of healthy plants and non-susceptible varieties and environmental management, and prophylactic measures (mechanical and chemical control).
