Abstract Field trials were carried out in Belgium in June 1982 to determine the effectiveness of treatments with a strain of mycelium of Zoophthora neoaphidis (Erynia neoaphidis) (originally isolated from Acyrthosiphon pisum (Harris) in Brazil) multiplied in a fermenter against the cereal aphids Metopolophium dirhodum (Wlk.) and Sitobion avenae (F.). Although the introduced inoculum produced significant quantities of conidia after its application and weather conditions were favourable for the development of the strain and the aphids affected by it, no positive results were recorded. This failure may have been due to lack of pathogenicity in the material produced.
