Abstract | Wheat cv. Odeon was field inoculated with S. [Leptosphaeria] nodorum, and the rate of infection of the seeds produced was estimated quantitatively using near infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS) at 3 wavelengths and by incubation on potato dextrose agar (reference method). Tests were made on 20 samples which had different grain sizes and infection rates, and on 35 mixed samples. NIRS results were in good agreement with those obtained using the reference method (determination coefficient = 0.91). The possibility of extending the use of NIRS to detect other seedborne pathogens on cereal seeds is discussed. |
