Titre The spiders (Araneae) of apple and pear orchards
Abstract Surveys were carried out during 1987-90 in 1 apple orchard (cv. Golden Delicious, Boskoop and Cox's Orange Pippin) and 2 pear orchards (cv. Doyenne, Conference and Lucas) in Belgium to investigate the effects of chemical control measures on spiders. The most common families were Araneidae, Theridiidae, Tetragnathidae and Philodromidae, with Araniella and Philodromus as the most abundant genera. Spider populations were mainly composed of juvenile stages, and a greater species diversity was found in pear orchards. Selective insecticides had less impact on spider populations than classical insecticides.
