Abstract | Soil from fields of Vicia sativa in Belgium that in 1976 had harboured numbers of Acyrthosiphon pisum (Harris), which was eventually decimated by the fungi Entomophthora aphidis and E. ignobilis (thaxteriana), was tested in the laboratory at Gembloux against healthy aphids collected from one of the same fields. The results of this bioassay revealed the presence of active inoculum of both fungus species in the soil, and demonstrated the part played by the soil in the conservation of these insect pathogens. |
