Abstract Profitable production of apples using organic techniques was investigated in Belgium. Disease resistance and tolerance, phytosanitary protection, the orchard environment and weed control are discussed. Studies were also carried out on the direct control of diseases in greenhouses. Direct control of diseases was achieved using a combination of factors.
