Abstract A mild winter and dry summer contributed to the development of leaf blotch [Rhynchosporium secalis], net blotch [Pyrenophora teres], brown rust [Puccinia hordei] and barley yellow dwarf luteovirus on barley and yellow rust [Puccinia striiformis], Septoria leaf blotch [Mycosphaerella graminicola] and take-all [Gaeumannomyces graminis] on wheat in Belgium in 1989. Foot rots were insignificant on wheat and barley. Fungicide control was needed only on barley.
