This five-day training course offers a comprehensive programme covering near-infrared (NIR), mid-infrared (MIR) and Raman spectroscopy, hyperspectral imaging, as well as the main chemometric and machine learning methods used for data exploration, quantitative analysis and classification.
Particular attention is given to good practices in sampling, data acquisition, spectral preprocessing and robust model validation. Combining theoretical lectures, demonstrations and guided data analysis sessions, the course enables participants to gain practical experience with the instruments, interpret spectral and imaging data, and develop reliable predictive models.
The course is designed for PhD students, researchers, technicians and professionals who already use these techniques or wish to incorporate them into their research and analytical activities.
Examples are drawn from real datasets in agriculture and the agri-food sector, including plant phenotyping, quality control of food and animal feed, traceability, and industrial process monitoring. However, the methods presented are equally applicable to many other fields, including chemistry, pharmaceutical and medical sciences, and any other discipline involving data analysis.
The lectures are delivered in English by CRA-W researchers and invited international experts. Throughout the week, the CRA-W team supports participants in their learning. Shared meals, coffee breaks and a convivial evening also provide valuable opportunities to exchange ideas with speakers and fellow participants, share experiences, and discuss applications related to their own research.
