Abstract A field study was carried out in 1996 in Belgium to study Pemphigus bursarius and Nasonovia ribisnigri on inulin chicory. The 1st species develops on roots and the 2nd on foliage. At harvest, less than one percent of the chicories were infested with P. bursarius. In July, at least 90% of the plants were colonized by N. ribisnigri, but the colonies rapidly decreased due to the pressure of beneficial organisms. Immigration of Autographa gamma was recorded which caused considerable damage. Spraying with deltamethrin showed a yield increase of 15%, compared with a control plot.
