The widespread use and digitisation of data generated on farms, along with the growing number of connected devices, raise questions about ownership, use and sharing of data.
At the European level, several regulations on data access and transfer have been introduced in recent years, and they continue to evolve (GDPR, PSI (Open Data), Data Act, etc.).
Faced with all these regulations, farmers and service providers in the agricultural sector, along with research organisations developing platforms or decision-support tools, find themselves in a complex situation. They must set up structures and implement new data management measures that meet the requirements for security, transparency, privacy and more.
In practical terms, the OpEnAgro4.2 project has produced an explanatory guide to the legislation applicable to agricultural data.
The first part of the Guide provides a simplified explanation of the GDPR and the Data Act. The second part aims to apply these legal insights through three case studies:
- connected tractors and other agricultural machinery
- herd health analysis
- connected weather stations
