Abstract From c. 2200 accessions of old fruit cultivars set up progressively since 1975 at the Plant Pathology Station at Gembloux, Belgium, 8 apple and 4 plum FGR (fruit genetic resources) cultivars have been selected for release to nursery growers. Results are presented of disease resistance tests, fruit quality tests and investigations into the period of fruit maturity performed during 1986-89 both on the FGR cultivars and on the collection as a whole. This paper was presented at the 42nd International Symposium on Crop Protection held at Gent, Belgium, 8 May 1990.
