Abstract Experience in Belgium since 1981 in the application of integrated control against a range of arthropod pests in an experimental apple orchard and some commercial apple and pear orchards is reviewed, with special reference to outbreaks of many species of new or resurgent pests that have developed. Although many difficulties have been met, these should not be allowed to lead to the abandonment of integrated control.
