SLU is an international university ,world class in life and environmental sciences. We are ranked among the Top 100 of ca 5,000 European universities.
We have a strong research focus, but we also offer some of Sweden´s most in-demand educations; veterin
Fonction
We are looking for a post doctoral researcher to work within a research group
dealing with Salix genetics/genomics. Different genetic tools as mapping
populations, genetic linkage maps, BAC-libraries and genome sequence data
are available for studies of the genetic background of resistance, tolerance
and growth traits. The research group is a member of the project Salix
Molecular Breeding Actions (SAMBA2) that is a collaborative project between
different departments at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences
(SLU). The overall aim of SAMBA2 is to develop breeding tools for a rapid
improvement of Salix. The focus is to develop molecular makers stable in
different environments and in different genetic materials to provide a basis for
accelerated breeding through early selection and recombination of interesting
genotypes.
The position is located at the Department of Plant Biology and Forest
Genetics at SLU. The department undertakes fundamental research on
agricultural crops, forest trees, Salix and model organisms to understand the
genetic and molecular basis of signal transduction, metabolism, defence
mechanisms and phenotypic variation including traits important for agriculture
and forestry.
Profil recherché
Subject description/research area: The position will focus on genetic
studies to reveal the genetic background of phenology and drought tolerance
traits. The research will involve quantitative trait loci (QTL) analysis and
association mapping using field experiments in Sweden and in Italy.
Phenotyping in the field experiments will be made in cooperation with
researchers at the Deptartment of Plant Production Ecology. New SNP
markers in interesting genomic areas will be developed using available
genomic tools. Expression studies of interesting genes will also be a part of
the work.
Duties: The primary duty of the researcher is to develop the science within
the research area.
Qualifications: Applicants should have a PhD degree or a foreign degree
deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate degree, not older than three years, in
genetics/molecular genetics. Documented experience in QTL mapping and/or
association mapping is an advantage for the position as well as knowledge in
genome analysis. The applicant must be fluent in written as well as spoken
English. Particular emphasis will be placed on scientific qualifications within
the subject area.
Type de contrat
Place of work: Uppsala
Form of employment: The position is granted for a period of one year with
possibilities for prolongation.
Extent: 100%
Starting date: As soon as possible.
