Farmers have their say!

As part of the Terraé network, which comes to an end in December 2025, end-of-project interviews are being carried out with the 40 farmers in the network.

A photolanguage warm-up session:

The interviews began with a photolanguage session. Farmers were asked to select two images, one evoking something positive and the other something negative in relation to their profession or their daily life. In addition to serving as an icebreaker, images allowed the farmers to touch on their perceptions of a problem or situation. This made it easier for them to talk about or verbalise certain situations. Although the exercise may seem to have strayed away from the objective of assessing the project from the point of view of the players involved, this tool made it possible to broach subjects that would not have been addressed without these images. For example, the photo of an earthworm's tunnel led one farmer to explain that, thanks to Terraé, he had been made aware of soil life and its observation, in particular by digging in the soil.

Semi-structured interview:

These interviews are described as semi-structured, meaning that an interview guide was drawn up, with open and semi-open questions, leaving plenty of room for the farmers to express what they wish. The questions also provide an opportunity to discuss any possible changes, both in farmers' practices and in their thoughts and wishes. To do this, the interviews carried out at the end of the project will be compared with those conducted at the beginning.  Next, the 40 end-of-project interviews will be analysed separately and cross-analysed to identify similarities, nuances or differences.

As well as assessing Terraé's support and guidance, these interviews will help identify the obstacles and levers to the agro-ecological transition, which will be presented in part in the autumn quarterly report.
